Artega Holmes and the spark of Magic Dollar

September 20, 2022

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Artega Holmes at his brand new store, Magic Dollar in Cypress, Texas. Firstly, I was struck by the fact that Artega has been proudly married for over 30 years, a testament to his commitment and dedication. It was fascinating to learn about his journey from being a furniture designer in Los Angeles to stumbling upon the idea for Magic Dollar during a vacation in Louisiana, coinciding with the infamous arctic snow blast that affected the Gulf Coast states.

After experiencing an extremely exasperating customer encounter at a retail competitor, a sudden realization hit Artega like a bolt of lightning. He thought to himself, “Dear Lord, I can definitely do this better than these people!” This epiphany completely shifted his retirement plans, with the full support and blessing of his steadfast wife. And so, Magic Dollar was born.

As Artega passionately explained, his goal for Magic Dollar is to create a business that can be passed on to future generations. With 14 grandkids of his own, it is clear that he envisions Magic Dollar as a vehicle for multi-generational wealth and success.

Strategically located near a popular grocery chain and two intersecting high traffic roads, Magic Dollar attracts customers from all walks of life. The store offers a wide range of products, catering to everyone’s needs with its diverse selection. Stepping inside Magic Dollar, I couldn’t help but notice how well-organized, labeled, and aligned everything was. It was evident that attention to detail is a core value for Artega and his family, which was truly impressive.

Coming from a military background myself, I was particularly impressed by the level of hospitality and pride displayed by the family employees at Magic Dollar. Their commitment to providing excellent customer service and creating a welcoming environment was evident in every interaction.

As the year 2022 races towards its conclusion, it’s hard to believe how fast time has flown by. Yet, amidst this whirlwind, my team and I sincerely wish Artega and his family teammates ongoing success and good fortune in their endeavors. May they continue to fulfill their fervent vision of helping the local Cypress community and passing on value to the next generation, leaving a lasting legacy for years to come.
